ISKA website not secure

Post by mcnamado »

Since last week I have noticed that the ISKA website displays ‘Not Secure’ in the address banner section of all pages. Could any of the Techs explain what’s happened and if all is ok?

Hi Donal,

The message is telling you that data sent to and from the ISKA website is not encrypted. The website was setup in a hurry after being hacked six years ago. I will look into resolving this loophole.

John
Oileain.org was reported to me just yesterday to be the same "not secure".
I was told you pay extra for greater cover.
About 50.00 p.a. was guesstimated but not investigated as I amn't bothered about it.

Hi Donal, Dave agus daoine eile,

The main reason why you would want to use encryption when accessing a website is for the protection of passwords, contact details and credit card details as they traverse the Internet. The ISKA website (http://www.iska.ie/) does not store contact details or credit card details, but it does store passwords for forum users. These passwords traverse the Internet without being encrypted. This is not ideal and should be resolved.

Note that the ISKA members website (https://members.iska.ie/) DOES use encryption because it does store members' contact details.

Dave, in the case of oileain.org, if there is no private information on the website, encryption is not needed.

Happy paddling,

John

The website including the forum should be secure now for all. Any problems, please let us know.
