ISKA Meet 14/15/16 August - Shark/Boffin
This is a three day trip, with two nights wild camping. Please be at Cleggan Pier for 1pm Friday 14th and we will aim to be on the water shortly after 2pm. Arrive earlier if you are slow to pack, if you tend to yap a lot and delay unnecessarily or if you hope to have lunch nearby before setting out.
Friday – depart Cleggan shortly after 2pm, we will skirt Boffin (without landing) and aim to set up camp on the SE corner of Shark (503 643).
Saturday - depart Shark around 11.00, we hope to circumnavigate both islands, landing on Boffin late afternoon. The revised camp site is on common land to the SE of the island at a beautiful sheltered beach (556 648).
Sunday – leaving Boffin mid to late morning to take account of possible hangovers and late risers, we can either come straight back in to Cleggan OR choose to extend the trip to take in other sights, depending on what the group decides.
Facilities
Shark is an uninhabited island with no facilities and you will need to carry everything you will want. Boffin however does have a couple of great bars with restaurant facilities, shops, a hostel, B&Bs and even a hotel for the G&T paddlers amongst the group.
Options
1. The route(s) can change depending on conditions, the size of the group and experience;
2. If you are unable to join us Friday afternoon, preferring to come out later that evening or possibly early Saturday morning, you must organise this yourself and ensure you have proper cover;
3. If you prefer a shorter paddle on Saturday to whatever the main group decides, again you must organise this yourself.
If you have any questions, please contact me as follows:

For an idea of numbers, please post if you hope to come along.

This is a great trip especially so if you haven't been there before. Sorry to miss it as will be at paddling meet in Belle Ile. Hope the sun shines and the wind is slack. If not might get the rerun later. ISKA trips need a break at this stage!!

Folks
A small bit of housekeeping in relation to this trip.
Parking in Cleggan
Parking in and around the pier is tight at this time of year. There are two slips in the harbour but more space for us to unload kit at the second slip to the right (east). There is free parking as you head out towards Cliften and cars can be left there over the weekend out of the way once you unpack.
Crossings
The crossing out to Shark is approximately 12km on open water and Atlantic swell, not to mention the backs of the islands. With a large group and loaded boats, it will take at least 2 hours to get out. You need to be conscious of this and be honest about your ability. If you are to join us, you should regard this as a peer paddle weekend and be of at least L3 ability.
Particularly if you are not travelling with the main group and coming out later, I would discourage anyone of less than L4 ability to attempt this.
Boffin Camp Site
We have been advised the originally suggested camp site on Boffin is on privately owned land. A few tents might be fine however, if there are large numbers we might not be too welcome.
There is common land by a sheltered beach to the SE behind a spit of land, where we will set ourselves up for the night (556 648)
VHF Channel 77 all radios for the weekend.
Everything will be determined by the size and experience of the group, where we go, what we do and whether we postpone. You will have an idea what to expect leading up to the weekend but keep an eye on the B.B. and drop me an email if you have questions.
