Boat tryouts

Newcomers to sea kayaking are faced with a somewhat bewildering choice in terms of what boat to get and, in the west at least, have little enough opportunity to try out different boats. If there is enough interest, I\'d be prepared to organise a tryout day, basically get as many different boats as possible together so people can compare them. It wouldn\'t be a trip meet, probably based on a beach so people would be able to hop out of a boat after a short period if they\'re definately not happy with it or equally, stay a bit longer in a boat they like.
I know it\'s not the ideal way to test a boat, really just a first taste so people can do side-by-side comparisons of a number of boats and identify the features they like and (perhaps more importantly) what they don\'t like in a boat.

Note that this will only go ahead if there\'s enough interest so details of when, where, how many boats etc will only be considered if there\'s a reasonable number of replies to this.

Thats a great idea. Its a long time since I was in a boat and I was going to let Dave C find me a suitable one, and this would be great way to figure out what I\'d like.. ,I\'d like to get something decent to get going in. I\'m in Dun laoghaire,

Sorry Ritchie, I should have been more explicit - if this thing goes ahead, it will be on a beach somewhere in Co. Galway or Clare. You will, of course, be welcome to come along .
