Post by DesKeaney » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:48 pm

Received from Ken Nicol re the \'07 Scottish Sea Symposium...

The 2007 Scottish Sea Kayak Symposium promises to be a special occasion combining the fantastic paddling opportunities of the Skye coastline with top tips from leading sea paddlers and coaches. These individuals are accomplished speakers, top coaches, respected authors on kayaking, and expedition paddlers who will join with experts on the wildlife and culture of Skye to make this the kayaking forum of the year.

Our well known contributors already include:
· Gordon Brown
· Doug Cooper
· Franco Ferrero
· Nigel Foster
· Howard Jeffs
· Mike McClure
· Kevin Mansell
· Andy Stamp
· Douglas Wilcox
· Brian Wilson
· Duncan Winning OBE

What’s on offer? Whether working towards a sea kayaking award, wanting to learn more or just want to have a paddle with like minded people, the Scottish Sea Symposium has something for everyone.
· Practical sessions and skills clinics.
· Lectures and talks.
· Workshops
· Slide shows
· Guided paddle trips
· Saturday night ceilidh
· Activities for young children
· Trade Stands from leading manufactures and suppliers

Following the main event there will be guided trips lead by top sea paddlers. The trips will be graded for different abilities.

We would strongly recommend that if any of your members are interested in attending that they register (and provide a mailing address) their interest with us so that they are sent an application form when they become available in early 2007.
Regards
Ken Nicol

I will be travelling over to give a hand at the 2007 Scottish Symposium by ferry and may be able to offer a lift from Larne. I will probably travel out on Thursday and return on Monday. Give me a call if this would be a help to someone. robinruddock@hotmail.com

Doesn\'t sound half as good as ours? We have Dave Carraher!
Is it worth considering May for ours one of these years. We used to and I have recollections of better weather, but then my memory isn\'t what it used to be, I think.
AND maybe the Mullet? Colaiste Uisce?

Hey Dave - that sounds like a good idea to me, god forbid people would have to paddle 2 days in a row!

Dave, we tried it in May for a couple of years and it really didn\'t work. There were twenty something people at the last one which was really disappointing for the organisers. So, we\'re now back at the original format of and end-of-season party which, given 100+ in Rosses Point, seems successful.

Des
I suppose you\'re equally against ISKA buying Colaiste Uisce notwithstanding the clear democratic mandate as expressed at Rosses Point ?

Dave that would be a great idea, just needs a place and lots of will power, maybe a bit of legal trickery??
