CATER ISLAND Co.Mayo
On Monday morning myself and Sharon met at Rooney peir at 8.on the water by 8.20.to do the 10km crossing to Cater Island which seats in front of Inishturk. The sea was lively with a top of a forse 3bfs on our backs and tide running against as but the sun was out and we made good progress. I will admit it felt nice to get in the shelter of the Island after a hour and a half crossing. They were several seals waiting to greet us. There big head's bobing up and down. We decided to stop and walk around the island and as we cross over the hill to look at the old church and gravestone you could feel the wind picking up. Listening to the radio the wind was meant to pick up. To a forse 6 so we decided not to risk the paddle to turk and to make a plan to paddle around Cater and the make our way back to Rooney. The wind was on the up and the water was still lively but it was fun smashing in to the waves even if the wind was blowing and making it hard to hear each other. I know some of you would say that was a blessing. Totally destents 26.5 km peir to peir time just under 6 and a half hours ....
