Build your own kayak

Post by Rw1 » Tue Aug 11, 2015 9:59 am

For some years I have being building kayaks and recently Alan Horner asked me if it would be possible to set up a class where members could build their own kayaks. To this end I have negotiated a special price with CLC boats who specialise in running building classes and make high quality prefabricated kits. The kit chosen is the Petrel SG - see links - which has a high enough performance in a broad range of conditions to satisfy most whilst still being user friendly.
The idea is to build it over six days as per the existing classes. It is completed to pre painting/varnishing level. The class will take place next autumn/winter and whilst places are limited there are still some available. Cost is St£750 - normal price is $1350. The reason for the sterling figure is they have to be shipped to CLC 's agent in the UK.
Important point !
Due to the extensive prefabrication and instruction you do not need to have DIY/wood working skills to do this !

Let me know what you think. I hope to make this weekend and I will have a Petrel with me. Any questions my number is 0863934283/0872785885

This was an amazing and exhausting week. And the end result of taking home your own Kayak was fantastic.

A huge thanks to Roger for this week, and to Paul, Robin and Barry.
