Campsites

Post by ciaran » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

Hi all,

it\'s been suggested that we might list kayak-friendly or particularly useful campsites on the website.

Johnny Daly nominates Acton\'s in Streamstown, the site of our recent CATI weekend.

There\'s a pretty good one in Lettergesh, and another at Dog\'s Bay in S. Connemara, that are both right on the water and accept casual campers (i.e. not just caravans). Anyone know what these are called ?

Others ?

regards

Ciaran

Er, Guys. Is the campsite referred to on Dog\'s Bay the one where kayaking gear was taken and placed on a bonfire through the night? Where the owner of said campsite offered \"You type are\'nt welcome here as your not putting money in our pockets\"!!! as we used the adjacent public carpark for an ISCA organised weekend????? Maurice. :(

I recall a fantastic campsite near Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry
right on the water.

Also Doolin - not quite on the water - but not far.

Try mannix at Caherciveen looking across to Valentia. Great place also for families and a launch from the campsite.
Classical music and flowers what else could you ask of a campsite.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I wasn\'t referring to the slightly odd place with the carefully locked toilets and \"barely tent tolerant\" policies, which is closer to the town. It\'s the one furthest N that I was referring to.

The campsite in Dogs bay is run by Denis O\'Keeffe and he is very kayaker friendly. The site is about 5 km out from Roundstone towards Clifden, ignore the first campsite you come to, Gurteen Bay, as this is the unfriendly one.
Lovely location.

Thank you to all who contributed.

Has anyone a favoured site in Donegal or on the Causeway Coast?

As an aside, I stayed last week in Fleming\'s White Bridge campsite in Killarney (www.killarneycamping.com). While Killarney is a bit of a tourist hell-hole (at least at this time of year), the campsite is excellent - flat, spacious, great facilities for tent campers (kitchen, common rooms, games room, wee shop...). About 20mins fast walk from the town centre, signposted from the Cork road.
