Over the years millions of Europeans have expressed their abhorrence at the trade in seal products and the annual slaughter of baby seals most of which are just a few weeks old when they are clubbed and shot to death. The biggest kill of marine mammals on the planet will begin shortly on the Canadian ice floes. The Government can help close down this trade in cruelty. Few Canadians buy seal products themselves, the vast majority of seal products pelts and oil are exported, mush of these to the EU.
This Spring, the European Parliament will vote on a proposal to ban seal product trade. This is an historic opportunity for the Parliament to save millions of seals from indiscriminate slaughter. A once in a lifetime opportunity exists for the Government to act.
