Dublin area, October 3rd

Post by evgenirojkov » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

Hello Dubliners !
My friend Oliver and me are coming from Germany for kayaking.
We hope to get boats for this day and would like to make a day trip somewhere in Dublin area.
Does somebody plan to be on the water in Dublin area on October 3rd ?
Would it be possible for us to join ?
Or would somebody like to join us ?
I appreciate your answer!
All advices are welcome as well :-)

Hi Eugene

I recommend you look at Oileain (see link in main menu) for the Dublin area.
Tide and weather forecast are very important, of course.

the common Dublin paddlng locations are (N to S)

Skerries: 4 islands close inshore, plus one (Rockabill) 5 km off. Expect rough seas between the inner islands and Rockabill.

Rush: access point for Lambay island. No landing allowed on Lambay, though people do stop for lunch on the beach. Lambay is a big and interesting island.

Howth: popular launch. Access to Ireland\'s Eye island (nearby, picturesque), also the Nose of Howth headland and the Bailey (N tip of Dublin bay). Water can be exciting on the Bailey.

Bulloch Harbour, Dalkey. Very popular South-side launch with good parking. Access to Dalkey Island and the Muglins. Expect tidal flow between Dalkey and the mainland, and rough water at the S end of Dalkey in E or S winds and on the flood tide.

Bray: access to Bray head. Good parking. Nice headland (a few kms).

There is a club trip planned from Bulloch on Saturday, weather permitting. You would be welcome to attend - watch the Meets section of this board for details.

rgards

Ciaran
