ISKA Meet- Burtonport,Co.Donegal

Post by Mary » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

Donegal Meet in the Sunny North West.

Meet at the pier in Burtonport (sign posted as Alt an Chorráin) (B717 152)
at 10.00am

The plan, weather permitting is to circumnavigate Aranmore Island and camp Saturday night on Rutland Island. Sunday will then be spent island hopping in the area.

If the weather happens to be bad.. rare but can occur... we can visit the the sheltered coasts of Aranmore, land on Inishkeeragh, Inishfree Upper etc .... on Saturday, camp on Rutland and then Sunday we can do more island hopping as there are plenty to see and visit.

The pier in Burtonport is used by commercial and pleasure craft as are all the slipsways so please park responsibly.
Leave No Trace policy is the policy of ISKA.
Carry fresh water as there is no mains supply on Rutland Island. The island does have inhabitants at time but there is no shop.

Any queries call me on 087 6619347

In case you didn\'t check the Meets list, the meet is 13/14 Sept.

A group of us paddled these waters in April, and I can only say that Aranmore is a worthy objective and a fine rugged day trip, while Rutland and the surrounding islands (plus the archipelago N of Burtonport) offer some of the finest sheltered-water island-hopping, channel-poking and pottering anywhere. On a calmish day, Owey is also accessible. The area S of Rutland (Terman ?) is also very beautiful, if you like pocket sandy white beaches between rounded granite outcrops.

Lovely!

Would dearly like to, but my brother has been hooked and I have to go on a stagger night to console him.

Hope the weather picks up for ye!

Hear Hear!
Thanks everyone for another great weekend, we had every type of weather (including Donegal rain which is apparently extremely rare) and all kinds of paddling conditions. Thanks to Mary for organising and to Mary, Alan and MIck for leading. Thanks Martina for the shuttle.
See you all soon,
Rachel.
