Oileáin

Post by DaveWalsh » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

Eleven new islands have been added, half from the Beara and half from Cashel Bay in Conamara.

My thanks to Sean Pierce for his continuing enthusiastic support. Its early in the season to be this productive.

The tally is now 420, up from 313 when Oileáin was published in 2004.

For those not familiar, the text of the bang up to date Oileain is available free to download from www.oileain.org, equally accessible from this ISKA main home page. The custom used to be and probably still is, to check is the area you intend to visit more up to date on the web version and if so, print out the bit you need.

A note of caution. Beware that it is one enormous text file, over one meg, even in html format, probably hundreds of pages. Copy and paste the few pages you need. Save the planet, and yourself a lot of bother (besdides probably a new printer if not just new ink cartridges.

New contributions always welcome and always acknowledged.

I am particularly anxious to get two new Irish offshore islands - Rockall, and Great Britain. I know of at least one ISKA afficionado who has landed Rockall, and I wonder is there an Irish paddler who has done more than one of the four \"normal\" crossings. These are Mull of Kintyre, Downpatrick, Holyhead, and Rosslare. I have only done Downpatrick, and would need input for the others.
