In the world of sea kayaking, the name Josie Gibbons has for a generation been closely associated with high end hewing of wood, workmanship, annual classes in Camus, the quality of the paddle designs, kayaks, altruism etc etc.
Well, for anyone ever thinking at any level of getting into a hand made wooden kayak, here is a gold plated opportunity.
Josie was, with others, associated with a Greenland excursion this summer that crashed and burned when the associated yacht made it only halfway across the Atlantic (the first person to mention the Titanic gets a solicitor’s letter). The Killary Flyer was carrying four Josie built kayaks that were to feature in a film and generally play centre stage in Upernavik in northwestern Greenland later this month. Native Irish and Iniuit craftsmanship were to be compared, contrasted, debated. The four kayaks were then to be marketed in America.
Long story short the boats are back in Ireland, along with the yacht. Everyone is safe, but there are downstream consequences, obviously. One of these is very positive for sea kayaking, that two of the kayaks are now for sale on this side of the Atlantic. In Connemara. In Camus Uachtar.
The design is ultra-modern but the workmanship is four generations evolving. Josie himself is made of oak but the boats are constructed of cedar strip.

Grabbed the nose of one to help carry it up from the surf line, and nearly fell over in surprise, they are so light,
(and fast, and beautiful)
You the man Josie.

What are you looking for them Josie, assuming they are not already snapped up.
