Re: ISKA Meet West Cork - Postponed to 13th/14th June
Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately due to the weather acting the maggot this meet is being postponed to the following weekend of 13th/14th June. We have a forecast of strong winds this coming Friday and Saturday (F6/W) and this would severely limit options. With the prospect of a better outlook for next week, we're hoping things will have settled down and improved a bit by then. So fingers crossed for better weather ..
Make sure to check back here next week for further updates,
Steve

Crap, can't make that, but will be in Roaringwater with a group sea kayaking / camping if you fancy calling over. Best wishes! Hope the weather plays ball.

As Steve can't make the ISKA Meet next Weekend
I will take it over.
Meet Friday 12th at the Campsite in Allihies
weather is OK but very changeable at the moment in terms of wind direction.
No Scary strong winds forecast at least
At this stage Saturday looks to be windiest (about F4) - so likely Bere Island would be our trip 24kms)
Sunday looking calmer circa F2 - so plans for Dursey might come to fruition
on the 2nd day failing that Allihies bay is well possible
please post below if you are coming
in case you need it my mobile oh8six six8six9zero19

thanks

Hi Folks
thanks to all who turned up on the weekend
some photos available here
http://www.flickr.com/photos/42589832@N ... 4594193602
For those who wee not there
here is a taste of what you missed
Day 1
15 paddlers from East West & South
Castletownbere Ferry terminal - out around Bere island
and down to Black Ball head (for most) some took a slight shorter option back to CTB
33kms for the longer distance. Totally wrecked at this stage.
Great caves and rock hopping on that part of the coast..
Camping at Allihies - basic but right beside the beach and quiet. Only eur6/head/night
Day 2
10 paddlers with the ISKA led meet and 5 paddlers did a longer (Advanced) trip
We launched 3kms up from Dursey Sound at Garnish Point and took on Dursey Is.
we took Dursey sound at slack water and went clockwise around the island
Found a stop with a difficult boulder landing after about 9kms for an early lunch at 12.30 and
headed down around the island and back up to Garnish point.
Excellent cave/tunnel just at the North East Corner of Dursey about 50m long
The advanced group also launched from Garnish point and proceeded to the BULL directly
and then around Dursey Anti-clockwise.
