ARCTIC NORWAY BY SEA KAYAK

Post by leonconway » Fri Jan 10, 2014 7:15 pm

‘ARCTIC NORWAY VIA KAYAK - FOLLOWERS OF THE MIDNIGHT SUN’

A TALK BY FOUR MEANDERING MEN @ TOLLYMORE NATIONAL OUTDOOR CENTRE
THURSDAY JANUARY 30TH, 2014 AT 7.30PM

For experienced sea kayakers, rounding the iconic but often treacherous Nordkapp is one of the great personal challenges. Nordkapp (North Cape), at 71ºN, is the most northerly accessible point of the European land mass. Only the great Norwegian island of Svalbard at 80ºN, stands between it and the North Pole itself.

Four instructors who work at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre, spent over three weeks kayaking from the beautiful Norwegian town of Bodo which lies just above the Arctic circle, to the Norkapp.

By the large Tollymore log fire, in the large Tollymore reception space and over tea, coffee and brownies, the lads will recall this remarkable sea journey along one of the most beautiful but rugged and turbulent coasts in the world.

Informative local people, the Norwegian royal family, cod fish, navigating the jagged west coast, glaciers and other intriguing aspects of Norwegian Arctic life, all feature during the travellers’ talk. For the four instructors’ sometimes differing perspectives…well come and hear about it !

Entry is £5 / €7 and all proceeds go to Macmillan Cancer Trust, a charity close to instructor Steve Millar’s heart. Just turn up on the evening or if you’ve further queries, contact us on 048-43722158 (from ROI) & 028-43722158 (from NI) or at tollymore.com
