Go for an Icom or a Garmin - the Icom may have the \"edge\". Whatever, try and avoid anything with knobs and dont bother with anything non-waterproof.

Also consider the M31.
Now with Lithium ION battery and NO knobs.

I got one for 246 euro.

Yes its ICOM. Im happy with it, though I\'m no expert. Apparently it used to be the cheaper cousin of the M1V. Since then they changed the battery from nicad to lithium ion which is now a major selling point. It has a battery life indicator on it which the SILVA S12 does not have I am told. I was trying to get a forecast around Keel Strand in Achill this week however and it was suprisingly crackly. Anybody know if this is the fault of the radio or the location?

I would say the battery life may be a bit shorter than that of the M1V (which is really long) but its cheaper and has no knobs so double thumbs up. I got it in Western Marine.

Ya they all have their good and bad points. I\'ll just have to bite the bullet and choose one

Have a price of 200 euro for the M31
and 149 euro for the M31 sport, which is basically the M31 with no rechargable battery with it. So would have to use 6 AA batteries.
Guessing 6 AA might not last long.

M31 at 200 euro seems best value. M1 V has knobs and is 289 euro
