Dry trousers/suit

Post by Redhead » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:47 pm

With the winter coming and having never done a serious amount of paddling in the winter I intend to change this this year.

I wanna get a good dry trousers or suit/dungaree type thing. Not sure if I should go for a fully dry trousers or just a sui type thing that I have seen sailors wearing, you know the dungaree type yokes with the shoulder straps?

What do people recommend. Looking for warmth (although dont want to sweat in it) comfort and durability

Thanks

You have to dress for immersion. The sailing suits with velcro straps on the bottom are poor if you\'re in winter water as they allow too much water circulation. If you were wearing them with something like Chota boots, it wouldn\'t be so bad as the boots form a pretty good seal on their own. They\'re fleece and neoprene lined for warmth and have a good heavy sole for rough ground.
With ordinary footwear, you definitely need try trousers and a good cag on top.
We do Yak, Chillcheater and Palm - don\'t hesitate to give me a call if you\'d like to discuss.

So you\'d advice getting something completely waterproof and a good cag on top? Saw the Aquatherm Dry Trousers on your website? How are these??

Have you thought about a wetsuit? I always wear one...very comfortable and when I end up in the water its still warm...so no problems with winter paddling.

Ya O callaghan, Ya I wear wetsuits when I am practising rolling and that. Find them pretty comfortable but can be restrictive on arms. Think a good dry trousers and a cag may be more comfortable.

I don\'t have any of the Combi pants in stock but can order for you. The spec is good for winter paddling. The latex seals on the ankles are good but you have to be careful with them. The Palm gear is good quality and reasonably priced.

Hi again Des,
I think I prefer Salopette type ones alright. Just been looking through a brochure and theres so much to choose from. In your own opinion which one would you recommend? I want a reliable one thats gonna keep me warm dry and keep the sweat off me. I\'ll get a good cag for on top too as my summer ones are a bit flimsy.
