I see this years Ocean to City boat race will take place on the 12th June. Closing date for entry is the 28th May. Application available to single and double kayaks.
I have entered twice and will suggest this is a super event, very well organised and great craic. If you are like me and fancy a bit of a challenge but are not overly concerned about coming first (or anywhere in the top half for that matter), I couldn\'t say enough about the race.
This has to be the most enjoyable racing event on the Irish calender and unique in that you can get mixed up in the middle of lots of different types of craft. Follow link for more information:

Conor,
thanks for posting reminder about this event. I am just wondering how the logistics work - do you organise a shuttle with other paddlers or do you use the organised shuttle to the start (which seems a bit awkward to me)? Basically I am looking for a bit of reassurance about how it all works out in practice!

I sent an e-mail to the organisers and the response is outlined below. For cars left in Cork during the race for the last 2 years, there has been a designated car park beside the finish line, with security.
The previous year I had no problems bumming a lift back to Crosshaven and subsequently collecting my boat from the designated area.
Response as follows:

Post edited by: conorsmith, at: 2010/05/18 16:41The story is this
There is no shuttle bus after the race to Crosshaven but what I do have is a shuttle bus on the morning of the race from the city down to Crosshaven.
If people want to drop their kayaks to RCYC & register early on the Friday evening then they can then drive back to the city & in the morning, park close to the finish area & take the morning shuttle down to their waiting kayaks.
When they then finish the race they can get their kayaks out of the water in the city & pick them up with their cars.
I don’t have a cost yet on the morning bus – it’ll be cost neutral for me
– Depending on who’s interested we’ll book the bus & whatever the driver charges will be split between passengers.
So if anyone is up for taking the morning bus they can contact me at www.oceantocity.com
Hope this helps!
Thanks again Conor!

Hi Folks,
The Phoenix Kayak club in Cork usually has a good few members in the race. I\'m sure if you hook up with them they\'ll be happy to give fellow kayakers a hand with transport.
Cheers,
Sean
