East Coast club are hosting a trip leader training / L4 & L5 skills weekend
in Strangford on March 143th & 14th
Open to members of ISKA who have completed their ICU L4 or BCU 4*
or above
Cost euro 20 per head to cover the cost of the Salt Iland Bothy in Strangford or if you are a member of East Coast Sea Kayaking Club - then it\'s free of charge
HERE IS THE OUT-LINE PROGRAM
Friday night - meet at Strangford for 8pm (we will have to figure out exact meeting point when we assemble there..)
Night Paddle to Salt Island Bothy
Saturday morning
Trip Planning for the 2 days
- Estimation of the Tidal Flow.
On the water 11,00hrs or there abouts
Planning our Safety Net
Crossing the flow, Ferry Glide, Transit
Towing accross the flow
Rescues in the flow
If we are lucky and we get some standing waves etc
we can spend time surfing and breaking in / out of the flow
using the eddylines etc.
Lunch on the island in the middle of the channel
waiting for the flood tide to bring us back in.
A bite to eat in Portaferry and head up the Lough for the night paddle.
Split into 2 small groups and do some night nav focus on Small features, re-location, dropping tide & tidal heights.

More navigation work
Have the group plan then lead the trip for the day.
We could exit the lough and head North along the coast
and then turnround later and catch the flood

Bring own Food, Drink, Stoves, Fuel
+ Sleeping bag + Mat.
Some places left inside the Bothy (Max 10 persons)
