I sadly received this e amil to day and was asked to pass it on .. It is with great regret that I have to inform you that Ernest died in hospital last Tuesday -25th Aug.-having failed to survive a heart byepass procedure
Ernie told me that he intended to compete in the veterans section of the Liffy(Liffie ?) marathon in Sept.
Having had a mild heart attack six or so years ago, he decided to have a check-up before the event. At this time further complications were discovered which led to his incarceration and ultimate demise
I write this because I believe that Ernest, being a leading light in the early days of your sport must have had many friends out there, and that you might consider an obituary in your club magazine an appropriate
to communicate the sad news to his past colleagues and friends
On my own behalf . I would like to say thank you to Ernie for all he did for Irish Kayaking.

Re:Ernie Lawrence R.I.P.
Ernie was an inspiration to many paddlers over the years. I first met Earnie over 30 years ago and his inspiration, knowledge, kindness and helpfullness were alway readily and freely available. He will be sadly missed. A great loss to us all.

A memorial service is being held in Saint Andrews Church in Malahide on 7th September, with drinks and stories afterwards in Malahide Yacht Club.
I don\'t have the time yet bit I am working on it.
