We have one of our spies heading up there - Mick Carroll (aka Chancer)

Been to this area twice. The first time paddled from Turku in Finland through the Alland Islands and the Stockholm archipelago to Stockholm - second time stayed on the Swedish side. The infamous Mary and a fireman were on trip. Have great charts too – enjoy the free Saunas on the Islands! Feel free to contact me.Post edited by: DavidH, at: 2009/08/25 12:36

Hi Thanks for that. Does anyone know though if there are organised groups e.g. book a trip with us and a few others type thing? Staying in Nykoping to start with but finding it very hard anything bar rent your own and all the gear which is a bit much on short notice.
Thanks

Yes - I do know where you can rent or get guided trips. We hired excellent sea kayaks from Ylva Ringhagen (Ringhagen@kajak-uteliv.com) who are an outfitters about 1 hour NE of Stockholm. They were great - and even did a shuttle for us at the end of the trip.

Hi, Try www.svima.se I used these guys a lot. They have a great selection of gear and boats. They have a minibus and trailer which can take you to the launch point. Just up from them is www.pampaskayak.se who also rent kayaks and gear (mostly Point 65 boats). There are many other sites - try www.eniro.se or www.blocket.se for links (these are search engines). I recommend paddling from Stavnas out to Sandhamn Island and then north through the Island chain to Moja Island and back to Stavnas - you can knock a couple of days out of this or extend your trip to Vaxholm for the pick up but this will extend your trip for a few more days. You can go North or South in the Archipelago for a different few days. I am in Stockholm from Fri 28 Aug staying at the Tapto Hotel on Jungfraugatan. There is excellent paddling directly from the rental sites into lake Malaran which is an inland sea effectively more than 100kms long and around Stockholm itself with a myriad of large islands notably Lidingo Island out to Vaxholm. You should have a chart which you can buy at a shop called Magazinet near the railway station. They sell excellent waterproof tear proof charts. The weather at this time is often excellent but no worse than Ireland so just dress like home.Water temp is higher than home at this time.
best regards
Mick
