Doolin rescue services have contacted me and they are organising an evening to meet water users, divers ,surfers , sailors ,and sea kayakers in the area. The aim of the meetingis;
They want each group to give a short talk on their relevant activity regarding what training, safety systems and equipment etc are used. What incidents are likely to arise and how we deal with them. They also want to know in the event of the rescue services being called out what problems would be encountered with each different activity. What specialist skills or equipment they would need for the different incidents within the different activities.
This is not an attermpt by the DRS to control things or place regulation upon the rebellious hordes that belong to ISKA, WISKA, FECKERS OR OTHERS,
but a great idea to make the work of the rescue services a bit easier.
I was asked to put the sea kayakers side of things because mine was the only number they had handy so if any one feels they could put a 10min. talk together and present it to them and take part in the follow up discussions volunteer now. Otherwise I will attend it myself.
All suggestions welcome regardig the above via the BB or else give me a call 087 0501909. I would appreciate fedback on any real incidents dealt with by yourselves or even if the rescue services were involved.
This is an opportunity to get our needs addressed and also to demonstrate to the authorities that seakayakers are a responsible and very competent people.
The meeting is open to any one who wishes to go but they would like an idea of numbers as the meeting room is not the largest.
IT will be held on Tuesday 24 Feb.2009 at 1900hrs at the DOOLIN HOTEL DOOLIN.
