Midge Repellant

Post by alanhorner » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

The wee biting Midge took a few wee nips from me this summer already.

Anyways - We found that UNOFFICIALLY our Scottish neighbours
are pushing \"AVON - SKIN SO SOFT\" as an UNOFFICIAL midge repellant.

We did a basic test - one arm 99% Deet and One arm Skin so soft
and midge did not come near either.
I think in Ireland this product is only available on mail order from the \"Avon Lady\"

Anyways it smells and feels a lot niver that DEET, Jungle Juice & Autan brands of insect repellent. No guarantees from Avon as they don\'t market it for this purpose..

I read a while back (Dermot Sommer\'s book, title now forgotten, super read) that the ONLY way to rid yourself of the midge was an old Irish cure. Seemingly you take copious quantities of cowdung (moist), mix it with whiskey, liberally smear the mixture all over yourself and set it on fire. B)

Hi Alan can you tell me where I might get some of the Avon Skin So Soft for use as a mossie repellant. Apparently it has many other amazing qualities and uses see the site above

I can confirm Skin-so-Soft\'s almost witchcraft like abiltiy to keep the midges at bay.

Anyone who\'s ever camped in Glencoe will attest to this...
