handheld vhf radios

Post by Ivan » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

My poor old Navico Axis 200 handheld vhf radio needs a new battery. Anyone know where they are to be obtained? Barry Electronics in Killibegs tell me they are difficult - read impossible - to source.

Alternatively, a more \"modern\" device might be necessary. Any recommendations from regular users? I have info on Entel HT640 (waterproof) @ Euro199 + VAT, and on ICOM IC-M31 (water-resistant) @ Euro235 + VAT.

Assistance much appreciated.

I had the same problem with the Navico. I gave up in the end. The Icom M31 is an excellent radio, except the central battery terminal corrodes. Otherwise, great battery, easy to use, very dependable and no knobs.

Dave,
Brilliant, I just knew some of the more well-established kayakers would have some of the \"old\" equipment. If you mail me at ivans.gibson@gmail.com, I can send you my snail-mail address and we can discuss terms -- unless, of course you will be in Newquay in the near future, in which case we can simply meet.
