Bold Fox on Sherkin Is.

Post by H2Obaby » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:48 pm

Heads up to anyone planning to camp on Sherkin Island this summer... A persistent fox broke into two of our tents while we were camping near the southwest beach this weekend - even going so far as to tear open one tent with its teeth and drag a mobile, wallet and a spoon outside!

We had all our food wrapped up, but evidently that wasn\'t enough to keep him out, and even after we frightened him away, he came back again a second night and did further damage.

Is this common behaviour from foxes and does anyone have any solutions to keeping them out of tents?

reckon it\'s more common to wake up and find a dog in your tent....

Thats weird, bold, behaviour for a fox. If it were on the continent the animal would be suspected of rabies. Not a likely explanation on Sherkin however....

Last time I heard of such a strange story about a Fox - It involved a Crow and a couple of Brothers - Grimm story though!!

There wasn\'t perchance a Crow in the vicinity doing look out and a couple of shifty looking characters hiding nearby and giving the fox instructions..

How many pints did you have, before the dog turned into a fox

In Greenland in 1975 a fox did the same to us, repeatedly, over a period of several weeks. We had two Huskies for protection from polar bears and it managed to outwit them. We ambushed it, set traps, stood guard - absolutely nothing worked. It was a huge problem.
Quite reasonable behaviour for a wild animal living on its wits and with a hungry belly.
