Gibraltar, 10-17 Feb

Post by DesKeaney » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:48 pm

Deep Blue are co-ordinating a trip to Gibraltar for the week of 10th - 17th Feb with Sea Kayaking UK (Nigel Dennis) and there\'s one place available. The cost is £470 + flight. We\'re going out early on Sat 10th and back late on Sat 17th. There are still flights available with the rest of the group. Everything is provided by Nigel; boats (glass NDK Romanys and Explorers), paddle, gear, tents, cookers, transport from and to Malaga. The primary objective is the crossing of the straits. You\'d need to be paddling at least Level 3+ (3 star) or above.
If you\'re interested, call Des Keaney, 01 2760262 or email des@deepblueseakayaking.com

Admin admirably consigned to the trash can of \"Buy and Sell\" what appeared under this thread to be a mere commercial advertisement by Des Keaney, but the reality is he missed a wonderful ruse.
There is a deliberate error in Des\' apparent advert (though the trip etc and place availability are genuine).
AND
There is a 2,000 yoyo reward for the first person to correctly identify the deliberate error !
The puzzle entertained me as I am in puzzle mode, preparing for the Feckers club quiz at end Feb, so I got it first time. Des would have to get up early in the morning to get past DWalsh on a roll.
I am the sole judge of who gets the reward. No appeals.
But you know you can trust me.

Does one reply here or by hard copy and snail mail Mr Walsh. Do you want all errors or just those pertaining to letters or maybe you are more interested in numbers?

I see big guns are about to be deployed ?
Answers publicly please as what is the point of making an eejit of yourself in private? There have been 2 or is it 3 efforts privately to date, appropriately disdained. Hints from third parties as well ?
I am going to have to set a time limit on all this, as is only reasonable, because I have to get back to concentrating on the big quiz end next month, so answers here please ASAP on this board.

While I agree with Gerry that there is only one strait of Gibraltar I would not put that in the category of deliberate mistake, nor would I consider the \'flight\' a deliberate error with the implication that one would either swim or sail home. Of course, if the strait is crossed there may even be an extra flight involved back to Malaga if the strait cannot be recrossed. However, I would not consider the above \'deliberate\' errors. However, I would question a young entrepreneur like Mr Keaney not knowing his own phone number, I doubt he has received many phone calls so far taking up on the offer. Not being a Computer Science expert I am not sure about the \'exchangeability\' of capitals and small letters in an email address.

I\'m with Gerry Spain on this, but he would never have guessed it except Sennan kept inflicting pictures on us all with \"Strait of Gibraltar\" written across the middle. Very subtle Knotman, very subtle, and thanks a bunch.
No one trying to sell something puts in a wrong number, so even were he having fun at all our expenses, Des being a Leitrim man, which is like a poor man\'s Cavanman, wouldn\'t have done that. Surely ?
On the other hand, those who have the arrogance to attempt to paddle across the Strait of Gibraltar in February without having paddled since the Liffey Descent last September might get in dire straits, but otherwise there is no reason for the use of the plural in that regard.
So, drop a clanger and still sell the slot? Sounds more like my Des right enough.
So I\'ll ask Des was that the deliberate error or not and report back.

Gawd, the embarrassment! Need a ghost writer to respond. No deliberate errors so if anyone would like to paddle the Strait of Gibraltar, then call 01-2760263

From dictionary.com:
strait [streyt], –noun 1. Often, straits. (used with a singular verb) a narrow passage of water connecting two large bodies of water.

From wikipedia
It is also known as the Straits of Gibraltar or Strog (Strait Of Gibraltar), the latter being used in naval circles.
So there you go.
