Surf and helmet

Post by Manuel » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:48 pm

Hi Guys,

First of all I\'d like to say thanks to every one involved in such a terrific weekend, especially to Marie for a perfect organization....Thanks Marie.

Secondly, I\'d like to bring your attention to a disregarded fact: It is more than advisable to wear a helmet when surfing, particularly when catching waves with more boats around. Last Sunday I had the opportunity to notice its usability when, after having broken my paddle, I was speedily thrown backwards by a big wave, crashing my head to someone\'s bow. Thanks God the helmet mostly absorbed the impact and now I\'m just regretting of a sore neck instead of something more than serious.

Another fact here is, should a similar event happen, both paddlers should capsize. The one who is thrown in order to protect everybody else, and the other one in order to protect himself.

Last point learned in that session: When managing a breaking wave, you have to brace on the wave....but not that hard!!!!....An image is worth more than a thousand words :)

All the best,
