Spike Island Heritage

Post by buildyourown » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:47 pm

Especially for those who have already paddled from Roches Point to Cobh then note that a group in Cork have organised to oppose the proposed Superprison on Spike Island and preserve Spike Island and develop it as a public facility/unique historical site. If you haven\'t then it\'s a real nice trip.

You can sign the petition on line on the website at http://www.spikeisland.info/

If they claim Spike then it\'s only a matter of time before the two Fort\'s at the mouth of the harbour are eyeballed for developers which would be a crying shame!

Spike is a focal point for the whole harbour and anyone who has spent any time in the area will appriciate its significance to build a bridge to it would be a real tradgedy, halfing the enjoyment of any circumnavigation..... not to mention the eyesore a \"superprison\" would be in Irelands most historically significant harbour. Another excellent development brought to you by FF.

Funny, when I were a young lad (yes, before the war, but there are so many to choose from), Spike was where unruly FozeRockers ended up. What\'s the world coming to, when getting marooned on a spike in the Atlantic is something that youffs brag about ?

Now, where did I put my antimacassar crochet pattern ?
