Re: Aran Islands Meet Clare/Galway - Weekend 18th August 2018
Please God Robin the weather will stay settled.
It's a cracking spot. Was out with Conor underneath the Cliffs Sunday, even in thick fog it's a special spot. Went out to Meain overnight also camped on shore. It's one of the few Islands that hasn't been touristised ! They all speak Gaelic and every cottage you pass (going to pub) have their doors wide open with neighbours coming and going. It's idyllic.

How's everyone ?
Looks like we may have to resort to Plan B.
I will call it Wednesday - However if weather doesn't change we will be resorting to fallback.
Our fallback RV for the weekend will be out of Kinvara Village - Galway Bay.
Overnight camp on Eddy Island at the mouth of Kinvara Bay - very attractive island with excellent camp sites.
Options from there for the adventurous include some of the best tide races in Ireland according to kayak guru David Walshe from his book Oileann.
- New Quay tide race being the most famous.
Tide race is beside Linnanes Pub - best chowder in the country.
- Bishops Quarter Race (different beast)
- Tawin Race (short but sweet)
Having Eddy island as base allows access to all of these delights including paddle to Black head which would allow wind to blow over top. Burren at its best.
Eddy is also a short hop from Parkmore pier which allows flexibility for people to come and go as they please.
I'll firm up details Wednesday - rendezvous times and locations.

******* POSTONED UNTIL FOLLOWING WEEKEND AUG 25th *******
Sorry gang - the weather is just too wet and windy not conducive to happy campers.
We will throw the dice for the weekend of the 25th - in the hope we can stick somewhat to original plan even if that means sticking to Doolin camping and the cliffs.
Which is what everyone really wants to do apparently. According to MET next week is looking very promising.
Sorry for upsetting your plans.

Hi Gang,
The weather for the weekend is looking much much better. If it holds true for forecast the meet will go ahead this weekend.
Meet Saturday morning Doolin Pier 1000hrs on water for 1100hrs.
I'm inclined to have a shore based meet. Camp or park in Doolin and have two day trips on the Saturday and the Sunday.
Saturday we could do trip to Inis Oirr have lunch and pint in the island explore it and return that evening.
Sunday Cliffs of Moher trip - Packed lunch at Haggs Head.
Alternatively we could do Cliffs Saturday and Aran Sunday. We will get a concensus as to what everyone wants to do on the pier Saturday.
Check forum for any updates Thursday. Final call.
