Blaskets - Blast...

Post by alanhorner » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:47 pm

Sunshine, 30+ Paddlers, Basking Sharks, Porpoise, Puffins, Gannets, Fulmar, Landings on Tearacht, Inishvickillaun, Inistooskert Gt. Blasket & for the elitists - a Scrape on FOZE Rocks.
and Flat grass for Camping on Beginish

Need I say more.
A great weekend more than worth the 6 hours drive.

Thanks to all who turned up to paddle and made the weekend memorable.

See some of you in Achill next month.

Thanks Alan & Ciaran for all the organizing. Spectacular views from the campsite. Can you organize for no horse flies the next time as we were not the only ones to have a good time.
Conor.

Great weekend, great weather and great company (including the horse flies), what more can one ask for.

Great trip - thanks Alan/Ciaran --- you left Inishnabro off your list --- probably the highlight for me anyway - oh and the basking shark swimming beside and then under my boat twice. It had to be at least 25 feet long (I\'m adding a foot on every week till the end of the summer... )

I think that\'s Mr Hughes in the frontpage photo.... I\'d agree that Inish na Bro was the top island, closely followed by the Tearacht.

That shark was certainly the most impressive thing I\'ve ever encountered in Irish waters (apart, of course, from Eileen Murphy).

Thanks Alan and Ciaran for all the organising and running a great weekend. Great to get to land on so many islands.. especially those difficult landings.. thanks to Conor sacrificing his boat as a buffer, stepping stone and even a foot bath!

Ah! but for the real Mc Coy you would miss the surging surf, blinding spray and the feel of a force 8 in your face around the Blaskets. Thanks to all the organists who organized the weekend.

To Mick the Chancer
It\'s nice to get a \"Pat on the Back\" from an old hand like yourself.
but as for a \"Rear Ender\" - Ever thought of getting brakes !!!

John Byrne got a video on his phone of the shark going under his boat. I hope if John is reading this that he will be able to download same so we can view it on a larger screen. Thanks to all for the weekend, it was one of my best paddling experiences, had only once been in the area before in winter. Kayaking is definitely the best way to see this beautiful island we live on.

Not even landing on the Kish could overshadow the weekend.
