An outline of the schedule of events is as follows. This is not carved in stone and may be subject to change. We chose the Belmullet Peninsula for this years event because of the limitless paddling opportunities available to every level. Whether you are a novice having only taken to the sport this year or you are a seasoned paddler, the options are endless.

Don\'t wait until the last week before booking to see what the weather has to offer. Unless there is a hurricane blowing, there should be nothing stopping every level from getting on the water.

Symposium Keynote Speaker.

Our keynote speaker for this year\'s symposium is definitely worth travelling for. In 2010 Sean McGowan from Limerick was the first Irishman to row solo and unsupported across the Atlantic.

He recalls the voyage as \"90% was horrific, 8% not too bad and 2% of incredible beauty and wonderment... What made it worth while was that it was so difficult.”

A couple of our members have been to one of Sean\'s talks and advises, \"listening to his experiences and what he went through would make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.\"

I would wonder how may takers we would have if Sean were to choose and lead a trip over the weekend..................Iceland and back in time for the Sunday afternoon classes anyone??Post edited by: conorsmith, at: 2012/09/10 09:18

Only 4 weeks to go and I have almost 60 names registered, which is a high number this far out as there is normally a big run in the last fortnight. Don\'t be waiting to see what the weather will hold before committing. Get your arses in gear and send in your forms and payments. Get your name in quickly and have first preferences.

You don\'t want to be kicking yourself looking at all the spectacular photos of the Inishkeas and surrounding areas after the event. Nor do you want to have to listen to everyone else going on and on about the wonderful paddling and craic, when you could have been there yourself.

We have great trip leaders, a great schedule and I have heard snippets of our keynote speaker\'s talk - you do not want to miss that!!Post edited by: conorsmith, at: 2012/09/17 10:28

As people have booked, I will have sent you a separate email for you to choose your preferred events over the weekend. While most of you have returned these straight away, some of you have not.

If you have made your booking and not returned these forms, can you please check your emails and get this back to me asap. If you fail to do so, you will have lost the benefit of getting your booking in first. :(

Thanks a mil and come back to me if you have any questions.
Conor

Some of you might remember Steve Bowens, who attended a Symposium in Donegal about 3 years ago. He is a lecturer in Falmouth Marine School, training watersports coaches, with a speciality in surf kayaks.

I have been speaking to him in a little more detail about the proposed Surf Sessions and what these will entail. Steve and the instructors will show us the basic skills for managing and handling your kayak in following seas and surf. This will involve surf landings and managing your kayak through the waves onto a beach and considerations for a relaunch. If conditions are manageable and people are up for it, you might even be able to effectively surf your kayak through the waves by the end of the sessions.

Early booking are getting first choice and names for these sessions are filling up very quickly.

Maps of the area

PDF maps of the area are attached for download. If you print these A4 size and get access to a laminater, they perfect for taping to your deck.

If specific areas are needed, send me an email and I will see if I can get organise this - iskasymposium2012@gmail.com
