ISKA Meet - Roaringwater Bay 23-25th Sept

In light of the Donegal meet being postponed to Sept 10th/11th
we have decided to move the SW meet to the weekend of
Sept 24th/25th.
I hope that doesn\'t cause too much inconvenience.

1st objective for this meet is the Blasket islands
but if we get unco-operative weather then our fallback is for Roaringwater Bay if we need more sheltered waters.
Full details of the SW Meet will be published closer to the date.

Weekend is looming, so which is it, Cork or Kerry? Two german sea kayakers (Salzwasserunion Members #1910/1911) will be at Roaringwater on 24-25/9 and could participate.

Hi Stefan,
Sorry but cannot decide this in advance - due to the nature of irish weather venue will remain flexible for time being.
Our first objective is still for the Blasket Islands - Weather will be the deciding factor and two weeks away it is unpredictable.
Final decision on the venue by Monday 19th Sept.

Accomodation plans - part 2.

TOP OF THE HILL HOSTEL - ARE SAYING
they are FULLY BOOKED - for Saturday evening.

Suggest we maintain the booking for the Hostel for Friday night
as it\'s about euro15pp compared to B&B euro40

So now you need to find a different accomodation for Saturday Evening.

I booked into the Bush Bar which has some rooms. 40 euro for a single. The Channel Inn B&B also offered me a double room with sea view and breakfast for 45 Euro even though I was a single. Not bad but the bar won out as a shorter stagger.

Despite changable conditions
Weather is Lookings OK for Sat/SUN in RWB.

Sat SW 11-15knots F3-4
Sun Morning SW 8-11 knots F 3-4
Sun Afternoon SE 17-24 Knots F5-6

This means we will plan a full days paddle Saturday
Probably aiming to get in Sherkin & Clear.
Sunday - Aiming for more Sheltered paddling in the inner Bay perhaps departing from Schull doing Hare, Skeam Long islands etc
or Maybe trip from Lough Hyne
exiting / entering via the Narrows which will be Emptying upto 14.13hrs
and filling thereafter..

Plans remaining flexible ..

On Saturday - we managed a lively trip out around Sherkin & Calling into Clear Island\'s North Harbour for a \"Civilised\" Lunch Stop,
Rounding the Bill of Clear in enormous swells and pushing back yp the outer side of Clear and Sherkin.

Sunday was a non-day and we didn\'t paddle unfortunately.

Thanks to all who turned up even for one day\'s paddle it was a worthwhile trip.

Thanks Alan for the great trip around Clear Is. I forgot just how much I missed the feel of the Atlantic swell under my backside for two years now. The standard of dining at ISKA meets took a considerable jump in quality and the bar is raised for future meets what with pre dinner cocktails followed by scallop starters and roast lamb mains all washed down with fine wine and lashings of Murphys. Beats the hell out of dried rations in the field.
