BZH - Aug 2016

Post by ND » Mon Jan 18, 2016 12:54 am

Hi there,

So, there is a meet in Brittany this year again, this time it’s about the 10th anniversary of the association kayakdemer, the crowd that organised the Brittany Kayaking Festival (BKF) 3yrs ago – the 6th international meet last year in Belle Ile was a different association (ckmer) but all the same idea: Sea kayaking .

It will be from Mo 15/8 to Saturday 20/8 on the Crozon Peninsula and in the commune of Crozon there: https://www.google.ie/maps/place/Campin ... 664a4fc445

The campsite is the camping de Trez Rouz http://www.trezrouz.com/- a bit more touristic/commercial campsite than what we had for the BKF or Belle Ile (with swing parks, pool, etc) but on the edge of the water with easy launching for easy (with the right weather) paddles to the cliffs of the peninsula with archaeological sites, geology, caves, tide races in the Goulet de Brest (watch out for the shipping traffic if you want to cross over – and no pictures of the navy vessels!) and surf on beaches facing the atlantic swell.

Possibility of overnight trips are mentioned: to the north with the Molene Islands or to the south to the Cap de Sizun from where you can get serious action in the Raz de Sein (I’m not going there with a kayak!): https://vimeo.com/133212188 (video from the guy who did that for the Belle Ile meet: https://vimeo.com/143855907)

Plenty of other things to do in the area for non-padddler including walks (GR), visits etc
It will be in August, and the 15/8 (bank holiday in France) falls on the Monday so it will be busy but no ferry to catch when you arrive.

Cost: €75/adult (incl. campsite)
Limited to 100 people (same as Belle ile which was full though a lot of people didn’t sign up because of the logistics – was 150 at the BKF which was also full)

I don’t know yet if there will be any BBQ or similar (I guess yes), Fetz Noz or good bye meal as at the BKF (I would say unlikely as we will not be on our own – but you never know)
There will be a web page to sign up and pay, I’ll post the details when available.

Cheers
Nic

I attended both of these meets in France and had a great time there. Excellent paddling in the company of like minded people from all over Europe. Super weather, though not guaranteed in Brittany, we got lucky. I guess in Aug you have the best chance. Super food and cheap vin de plonk. What more could anyone ask for.

Registration details will be announced on the 1st march2016 - I'll pass them on. It looks like they'll be strict on the 100 participant to keep it convivial and about 60-70 people have indicated they would go. They said expression of interest will not count but only paid registration so if you're interested, be quick (a bit like a Garth brook concert). They have also said that those camping/ lodging outside the campsite will not be included in the trips - or no point to limit the No. at 100. I don't know if that applies to those in luxury chalets as mentioned by Mick (see the ECSKC.eu forum) If you consider that option, I can ask them what's their view is on that but it certainly will not be included in the price and I would also strongly suggest you organise that very soon to avoid disappointment as the 15/8 is a bank hol and it falls on the Monday this year and if the weather is half decent it might get a bit busy... Any queries, give me a shout. Cheers Nic
