Hello all

Just thought we\'d say hello and introduce ourselves and stuff.....we\'re new to this whole sea kayaking thing but it\'s about time we stop being hermits and say hello to the rest of ye!

Anyways, we were just wondering about joining up for some of the east coast paddles - what sort of standard would we need to be before we start coming along? We\'re not absolute beginners but we haven\'t ventured out in any sort of rough conditions yet, learning to roll at the moment and trying to pick up some rescue techniques.

Hopefully meet some of ye soon enough

Thanks

Ciara and Niall

Good to see that you will be joining us soon.
Our new schedule is up on the website - and we are planning trips on Saturdays (and some Sundays).
We aim our trips at paddlers of average ability (Level 3 ICU)
That said we can face some challenging waters when the tides or weather becomes \"Interesting\".
My suggestions to you both are to try and get some paddling done with us in
easy conditions - So watch for a forecast giving Force 3 or less. Be aware that if the wind Direction is Easterly - We expect some rough Sea Conditions if the winds are strong in the days preceeding.

This Saturday we will meet in Greystones at 10am.
Out-look os for moderate winds so F3-4 - Directiion southly or South easterly
so we expect some waves but not extremely troublesome.
Just look out for any additional postings here on the BB and check the Met Eireann Forecast .

I am presuming you have your own sea Kayaks, equipment etc etc

If in doubt give me a call 086-6869019 after 17.30hrs
thanks

Hi guys,

I\'d be interested to know where you learn to roll, and whether it is essential to have your own boat? Alice

ISKA runs rolling clinics each winter - I expect we will this winter, too.
Last year, boat hygiene was critical, and ISKA provided all the boats for the sessions (due to the generosity of the owners).

Again last year, the venue was Marian College in Ballsbridge and the clinics were in January. The format was 1-on-1 for twenty minutes or half an hour, for about half a dozen sessions.

Hi Ciara and Niall, Great to have you out paddling last night. Come along to the club trips at the weekends during the winter. If in doubt about whether to go or not ring the trip leader.

Ps Great nights paddling last night despite f8 winds forecast by met eireann
