The P&H Icefloe Umnak is good for beginners. While hatches aren't essential at first, they're useful for longer trips. You can find kayak accessories, like hatches, at stores. One option is Great Outdoors, which has a variety of gear.

I have never experienced the sea before. Is it different when kayaking on a stream or lake?

I have one, it's quite new as I've only used it for 1 year. Do you want to order?

Hatches should be considered compulsory for any sit-in kayaks. To paddle without these in place would be considered dangerous and not permitted at an ISKA meet.
