North West ISKA Meet

The final decision on where to go will be made on Thursday 7th Aug after a good look at the weather forecast for the weekend.
A possible plan is a trip to Fanad Head and back on Saturday and maybe Inishbofin, Inishdooey and Inishbeg on Sunday or visit one of the islands off the west coast of Donegal – Gola / Owey etc as a day trip. All planss are wind strength and direction dependant.

Check here again on Thursday evening for the final arrangements for Saturday. Sunday plans may be altered on Saturday after the days paddle.

Fanad Head:
Launch spot: Portsalon BUT at the main beach (C238 401 Sheet 2). There is a path from the large car parking area to the beach under the golf course pathway. The small beach beside the pier is too busy in summer and parking becomes an issue.
Official camping very close by: http://knockallacaravanpark.com/

Inishbofin/Inishdooey/Inishbeg:
Launch spot : Magheraroarty near the pier.( B899 333 Sheet 1)
There is NO CAMPING at Magheraroarty
Hostel: http://anoige.ie/Hostels/Our-Hostel-Gui ... Hostel.htm
Camping and Hostel: http://www.corcreggan.com/

Western Islands:
Launch spot for Gola: Magheragallon pier. (B793 266 Sheet 1)
Camping/Hostel : As for Inishbofin

Am I reading that right Mary for next Sun. Forecast F8/11 SW, with 40mm rain and 7.7m wave height. Don't forget to but in a strong bow rudder after you leave Magherorarty harbour or it's Tory nor Boffin you will hit. Hope it improves on this!!

Not looking too good at this stage alright!!
YR weather seem to think it'll be okay but windguru and magicseaweed are painting a very poor picture.
Will keep you updated.

Been weather watching closely over the last few days and it is very changeable with regard to wind strength.

So will have another look this evening to see if it is a possible runner but Fridays report will also need consideration. No point in travelling all the way here if those winds come in early.

If you are even thinking of travelling can you please post now so I'll have an idea of how many are relying on this forecast decision!

Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary, I will travel most likely with Roger Waugh if the weather presents a window. Not easy to plan with the way it's going weather wise.

Unfortunately, with the unpredictable wind and ever changing forecast, the Donegal meet is postponed.

There could be a weather window on both days of the weekend but its not worth chancing travelling to Donegal for a short spell on the water. Hopefully, we'll get to do some of the proposed trips before August is out. Keep an eye here for a date for this.

Pity about that Mary but better sure than sorry. Maybe later as you say.

That's a pity, but I see what you mean looking at Windguru. Might be ok for one day next weekend (if I can post the kids on a sleepover!) or for sure the weekend after that. Craig

That's the right thing to do. Looking forward to a better chance. Hopefully rather sooner than later.
