Deck Lines on your Kayak

We had occassion to perform a rescue laast night on the South end of Dalkey Island. The sea was lumpy with 1m breaking waves.

The rescue was made doubly difficult as the Kayak concerned
possessed no deck lines only bungy cords.
The Kayaker being rescued spent longer in the water as a result.

Had the point of capsize been closer into the rocks - then speed of rescue
becomes more important.

Please check that your kayak has decklines running along the sides - both Fore & Aft. They need to be secure and NOT bungy cords.

This is a safety requirement and a trip leader may refuse to take you to sea without them.

Thanks for your co-operation.
