I\'ll tell the strory if I am bought sufficient beers - the good news is that Eileen survived.
to answer the question I also carry flares in waterproof box in my day hatch on the day I definitely would not have opened it and would have thought twice about letting anyone open the hatch. I definitely would not have opened my spray deck so the fact that they were easily available was critical-and safer.
Also be aware of the short burn time-try and make sure potential rescuers are looking your way - the smoke looks great until it blows away. Other good news was that they worked perfectly and were simple to use.
I have since bought a laser flare see
http://www.greatlandlaser.com/ which some people have seen.
Last word nothing beats good planning, checking weather forecast and making sure you/the group have a wide range of protection - flares, vhf, Dave Carragher - as well as good training.
Pat.

They walk among us. Beware
Date: 2006/08/30 03:18 By: knotman Status: Visitor
1 My friends and I were on a Beer Run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. As it was going to be a big party, we decided to buy two cases. Because there was now 2 cases the cashier multiplied the 10% by 2 giving us a discount of 20%.
Beware, they walk among us.
2 I was hanging out with a friend when we saw a woman with a nose ring
attached to an earring by a chain. My friend said, \"Wouldn\'t the chain rip out every time she turned her head?\" I explained that a person\'s nose and ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way the head is turned...
Beware, they walk among us!
3 I couldn\'t find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to
the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a
trained professional and I was in good hands. \"Now,\" she asked me,
\"has your plane arrived yet?\"...
Beware, they walk among us!
4 A friend\'s sister has a lifesaving tool in her car it\'s designed to cut
through a seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk...
Beware, they walk among us!
5 Some people I know keep their Flares, Knives, Emergency equipment in their hatches.
Beware, they paddle among us
PS: I don\'t really know anybody like this, do you? Sennen
