Oileáin - a new record

Post by DaveWalsh » Wed Sep 18, 2024 7:21 pm

There is a bigger nut job than me out there it seems. My own tally of Irish islands visited is 559 out of the 634 in Oileáin. It seems there is someone ahead of me …………….

https://www.irishexaminer.com/lifestyle ... 73777.html includes the statement “This seven-year journey on this page has encompassed 655 Irish islands reached primarily by kayak but also by ferry, RIB, punt, SUP, helicopter, by swimming and by wading. “

Dan MacCarthy, journalist, Irish Examiner

I don’t know whether to be delighted or the opposite, and then the question, what is the opposite?

One reaction from a friend was “not unlike the birder world it’s always great to have someone even dafter🤣… than oneself…”.

Dan is counting fresh water islands as well as salty so "apples and oranges". His project is bigger, wider than mine. Nice to know all the same there is someone else "at it" ! DW

There was a (cautionary) sting in the tail (tale?) for anyone (still) interested in this topic?

In case there might be I have introduced a "Latest News" section on the website and this is the first ever use made of it.
