ISKA training courses 2019

Post by steven d » Wed Feb 06, 2019 4:47 pm

This year ISKA is again organising some generously subsidised pre-season training courses. This year the theme is leadership skills. If you have reasonable paddle skills but lack confidence in directing a group, or have lots of experience but not sure what to do when people look at you for guidance, then this course is for you. Your paddling level must be a solid L3/* or above for this course to make sense. If you don't have the certs that's fine, but courses are not for new L2’s. Email or PM if you’re not sure.

Two similar courses will be run, one in Tollymore and the other in Kinsale.

UPDATE: Due to popular demand another training session has been organised for the Streamstown meet aimed at L2 progressing towards level 3. More details here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3753

In Tollymore Oisin Hallisey will run the BCU leadership course on the 13/14th April. This is open to all of L3/* standard but to get the BCU cert you will need your 3* and coastal navigation done. Accommodation and catering in Tollymore Centre is available at extra cost.

In Kinsale Jon Hynes and Sandra Bickerdyke will run a course specially designed for ISKA members on 30/31st March. Accommodation is available on the floor of the training centre (I'm assured this is a great idea). We will have an evening session too. Canoeing Ireland don’t have an equivalent of the BCU’s leadership cert, so no need for an assessment.

· Prices will be in the region of €60 for the weekend as last year, ISKA will subsidise the rest.
· We have planned for 12 spaces on each course.
· Open to all who were ISKA members in 2018 and have paid up for 2019
· Price only includes training costs. You’re responsible for your own equipment, suitable for the time of year, and all travel, food and accommodation costs.
Courses are expected to go ahead regardless of the weather

How to sign up? Post your full name below with the location you can make. We’ll count up the numbers, maybe try to rejiggle groups or have a lottery and confirm pricing by the 17th February. You will then have until the end of February to pay membership and the course fee or the place will go to the next in the list. Refunds will be issued only if someone else of an appropriate level is available to fill the place on the course.
