I've never been to a symposium before, how does it differ from a normal meet?
ls there a rough programme of activities for the weekend or anything like that?

There will be a programme of events that will
include full and half day paddles, and skills workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

These will be led by a group of coaches/instructors that are providing their time free of charge. They will need assistance.from the experienced paddlers amongst the attendees. This 'volunteerism' is central to the way ISKA and the symposium work.

There will be a dinner on the Saturday night. During this dinner, there will be a raffle for items donated from shops, providers and individuals. The proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the local branch of the RNLI at Portrush.

The AGM will take place before the dinner.

Peer paddles are often organised amongst the attendees on the Friday and Monday of the symposium weekend.

Like ISKA meets, the symposium is a social event that takes place on the sea during the day, and 'around a fire' at night. Unfortunately at the symposium, we cannot actually have a bonfire in the hotel restaurant 😕.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

🙂

We will be auctioning off the ISKA library at the Symposium. In this digital age there is little need for it. It has been gathering dust for a number of years. The proceeds will be added to the funds raised at the raffle for the RNLI

Cheers
Chris

Many wonderful prizes have been sponsored by our fantastic Irish independent suppliers, so don't forget when visiting these retailers in person or online, to thank them for supporting our favourite charity, the RNLI and the Irish Sea Kayak Association :D

Nice idea, can you post up some indication of the ISKA library, number of books, maybe a photo of the collection, to generate some pre-event interest. :P

If possible, bids will be accepted before the symposium to facilitate those who cannot attend. More details to follow...

I'd be happy to help out with skills training one of the days...so long as someone can sign my log book for me 😄
