South coast meet now happening on the 26th/27th May 2018

Due to the overwhelming popularity of Cork in summertime it won't be possible to accommodate the 40 odd paddlers of an ISKA meet anywhere along the south coast on the original date of the June bank holiday. From June to August everywhere is booked up or unwilling to take large groups. Even the secluded coves are already full of camper vans.

But the meet will go ahead, just a week earlier than originally planned. I know you couldn't wait any longer :D

The base will be Garretstown House holiday park/campsite http://www.garrettstownhouse.com/index.htm . It's only 2 min drive from the beach and has indoor areas if the weather turns. There are plenty of sheltered paddling options and surf if the conditions don't allow a longer trip.

Please post here or message me by Monday week (21-May-2018) so I can let the campsite know how many to expect and facilitate a group rate.

Next week I'll post up more details of where to meet Saturday morning or indeed Friday afternoon if not at Garretstown beach.

The forecast is stunning for the weekend, I hope a few more can make it. It should to be a fairly relaxed weekend in the sun - no epic conditions to deal with :P The numbers are small enough that I can confirm with the campsite by friday morning, so if anyone else is coming just let me know. Looking forward to it!

Hi Steven.

I would like to look at coming along this weekend, would you be able to fire me through details of the itinerary for the weekend, if there is any, if not could you let me know what time you would be meeting on Saturday morning? Are there any pre-requisites for attending?

Thanks.
Rob.

Will travel down on Saturday morning and stay Saturday night. Any idea when and where the Saturday morning briefing will be?

The schedule is to meet at the Speckled Door 1030 Saturday morning. You can drop your kayaks in the driveway https://goo.gl/maps/AXd8MirX1bM2 close to the steps to the pier but then move your car as soon as you can to the car park around the corner. We will then shuttle cars to the get out at Coolmain beach - about 15 min drive https://goo.gl/maps/7FMX2ZDxpMK2 . We'll paddle through and around the old head before making our way west along the coast, stopping on the beach for some lunch. There's usually some pizza/coffee vans there. We'll spend the afternoon rockhopping along to coolmain. I can guarantee a sighting of a fin whale - well the skeleton of one anyway  . Garretstown house campsite for the evening is at P17 NP66 , a small few of us will be there Friday.

Depending how people feel, Sunday will be another shuttle along the coast east of Kinsale, from Oysterhaven to Roberts cove.
