Streamstown May 16 and17

Post by martinguilfoyle » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:49 pm

The come and try it will again be held at Actons camp/caravan site, Stramstown, north of Clifden. Grid Ref. 584,547.
From Clifden take the N59 westport road and after 4km take a left for Claddaghduff. After 6.5 km the campsite is on your left on the north side of the mouth of Streamstown Harbour.
This is a marvellous spot with its own private beaches and great open areas for children of all areas from 3 Monthws to to 85 years. A great place for families. Families of paddlers are most welcome to join us and enjoy the best of the west of Ireland. Camping for ISKA is 5 euros PPP night. I have not received confirmation of this yet.
Sat night there will be a cooked dinner laid on, prepared by an International team of specialist \"al fresco\" chefs. For this we request a donation be made and all profits are given to the Doolin Rescue services. Over the last few years we have managed to raise a fair amont of money for this very busy outfit. We hope to make the evening a very social occasion so bring your instruments, skills and talents and enjoy it all.
PADDLING; I believe there will be at least 3 paddling groups. 1 that will waNnt to do there own big trips. 2 An intermediate trip with a leader etc. and 3 THE COME AND TRY IT GROUP. This year we will run a separate ttrip for those who are less experienced. During this, guidance and knowledge and experience will be available to be availed of if people so wish.
This all sounds very formal and stuffy but its not; it is about having a good time and learning so if you are a paddler who can keep your bum in the seat of the kayak and want to learn/experience seakayaking and the ISKA COME AND JOIN US.
This is NOT for absolute beginners.
Boat and equipment hire information to follow.

I know, that with the weather we are experiencing, it is difficult to imagine the sun kissed sandy beaches and torquoise seas of the west coast particularly Stramstown area, the weather gods most favoured spot, but this is waiting for us next weekend 16 and 17 of May. I have contacted my usual source who assures me of something good.
We have the culinary team on a high state of alert awaiting the delivery of the exotic ingredients for the Sat. evening meal.
Everything is in a state of readiness like a well trained and motvated army--We are neither Munster, Leinster or Ulster but we are The Westies.
However, what we do lack is some rough idea of numbers and a few volunteers {from any region of the world} to assist with the clean up Sat evening for about an hour.
When the last beer is drank and the spirits have been imbibed please can people take home the cans and bottles that they brought with them. Yes I appreciate an empty bottle is not an object of desire but remember it served you well so take it home.
Look forward to seeing you all.

Hi Martin

To confirm that as far as I know there will be three members from up north, Navarat T, Pete E and Ricky F.

I bring sun-shine and clear skies every where I go, so no need for tents, we can sleep under the moon and stars.

See ya

Navarat

To ansewer a few queries ihave received.
YES this is a come and try it weekend and there is a team dedicated to this aspect.
If you are a river paddler or lake or other recreational paddler who would like to learn and experience a bit about sea kayaking you are most welcome.
I would appreciate a call so I can establish numbers and get an idea of the varios abilities. There is something for everyone but we cannot cater for total beginners but do feel free to contact us or come and meet us and we can give you info regarding activities/training providers.
Yes it is a come and try it and we will have a few different designs of traditional paddles for people to use and roll with. If you have anything you wish to try {keep it clean} bring it along. If you have acquired any new skills or recently acquired new rescue systems and methods step forward and we can try them too.
If anyone wants to try anything out there is a squad of volunteer guinea pigs ready primed and vetted for pig flu, willing to participate.
Yes you can bring your musical instruments and your sense of humour.
NO we do not supply tents etc but we will provide a meal inc vegetarian option on sat night but request a donation for the rescue services and this does not mean for the guy who puts you back in your boat inthe event of a capsize.
