Diffraction control breakwaters, Chesapeake Bay

Post by knotman » Sat Feb 20, 2021 12:50 pm

Hi all....Waiting, waiting, waiting.

Refresher: Diffraction refers to various phenomena that occur when a wave encounters an obstacle or opening. It is defined as the bending of waves around the corners of an obstacle or through an aperture into the region of geometrical shadow of the obstacle/aperture.

Pretty neat use of breakwaters to control coastal erosion.

Quote: "The semicircular way in which the sea has eroded the shoreline behind the breakwaters is remarkably clear evidence of the effect of diffraction". {Let there be Light, Montwell and Breslin}.
