Coastal Erosion

Post by DaveWalsh » Wed Jun 05, 2019 1:56 pm

In the context of researching Wexford Harbour in connection with Ireland's most interesting sandbank - Rosslare Fort Island - I became aware that the island had formed by the erosion of the rinn or spit or penninsula that is Rosslare Strand.
But I was blown away recently to discover that two half inch maps I own (I'm into maps) the "before and after" is clearly demonstrated.
The 1962 publication is "as was" but the 1981 version is "as is".
The damage happened in 1926 and proceeded rapidly so maybe 1962 was behind the curve.
I attach the two maps.
Surely this is the greatest Irish coastal erosion experience of the 20th century ?
