Result of vote on insurance

Post by iskacommittee » Thu Mar 02, 2017 12:08 am

Do you agree or disagree with the following motion:

All members of ISKA must take out third-party insurance by doing one of the following:
  • Joining their national governing body for kayaking/canoeing (for example, Canoeing Ireland (CI) or the Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI)), or
  • Taking out independent third-party insurance to provide cover them in the case of an accident to third parties at ISKA meets.
Total number of eligible voters: 183
Total number of votes cast: 105
Turnout: 57.38%

Total number of Agree votes: 47 (44.76%)
Total number of Disagree votes: 58 (55.24%)

Motion is defeated.

Thank you to the committee for your work, to everyone who voted and to a very thought provoking debate.

Regardless of whether this was carried or defeated, I don't see it as a reason to celebrate. I am though very much looking forward to catching up with everyone on the water over the coming months and to a craicing paddling season.

Ditto what Conor said.

Insurence or no insurance we have always looked out for each other on the water and will continue to do so.

See you all at Streamstown please God !

Thank you very much to the committee for bringing this to the membership, a huge amount of work has been done on this and the debate and discussion that it has provoked is a credit to the association. A particular thanks to John who I imagine has been near full-time involved in getting all the behind the scenes work done. Thanks all!

Well done to all the committee on this.

It's not been an easy one and great to see the supportive commentary here on this thread from others.

If individuals did want to take out their own insurance outside of their Canoeing Ireland options then have a look at
https://www.insure4sport.co.uk
you can search through the sports and choose and policy for kayaking with an international option, equipment loss, third party liability, perosnal accident, loss of earnings etc.

But again, this is a personal choice.

Wishing you all happy paddling.
