Project Oileain

I'm back. For now anyway....... Oileain now has 592 islands and rising, the most recent being four wee newbies in Cashla Bay around about Rossaveal, where the research introduced me to a Martello Tower of all things. There are a couple in Bertraboy Bay and some in Dunmanus Bay. Some researched stuff...

Paddle Floats

I met a sea kayaker recently with a brand new paddle float, in his rear hatch (longevity, apparently ......), and a discussion followed. Rosslare Fort Island

Rosslare Fort Island Since first I came upon knowledge of it over 10 years ago I have been utterly fascinated by Rosslare Fort Island T121-218 Sheet 77, surely the most interesting sandbank in Ireland? A couple of weeks ago the Wexford People newspaper published an article on it that sheds lots of ...

Re: Magnetic North Pole

When I were a lad, by gum, magnetic variation was almost 10 degrees. There was a warning it was decreasing by so much every year and that sort of thing but not enough for anyone to anything other than ignore. Not more than three years ago I gave a navigation class to a Symposium and I gave the varia...

Re: Irish Islands History by Diarmuid Ferriter

Eamonn It was good to talk. Good work you are at. It is 20 years and more since I was first exhorted towards a "clickable map". Oileain may yet rival "Mountainviews"? Sean Pierce is now the editor of Oileain and in charge of things. I have passed him a message and he will surely ...

Eamonn
I've been schooled not to click on things like that.
Have you a phone number?
Thanks

Re: The truth at last!

The correct statement surely was “A committee should always consist of an uneven number and three is too many” (thank you Henry Ford). He was of course better known for "You can have whatever colour you want so long as its black you want". Psychobabble is a generic term; my daughter is a d...
