Seems a fair point and lets hope lots of people sign up for the event.

However the debate here started with an honest and relevant question and the contributors just ran with it. Distribution of membership lists/Data Protection issues/Association policies - not worth thrashing out?

This has already been trashed out.
The membership voted on it and the committee implemented the will of the membership.

Rehashing old arguments isn't being helpful particularly since nothing has changed.

Look membership of ISKA is astoundingly good value. For €20 you get organised Meets throughout the country. You get subsidised weekend training with qualified instructors.
You get a 50% rebate on completed certification.
You get a kayak magazine published for its members.
Last but not least you get two days with qualified instructors at the symposium which is also subsidised to keep cost down.

You wouldn't get better value anywhere else. Except maybe WISKA. We pay nothing.

Hello Brian. What you say is right enough but unless I missed something, the possibility that lists of members may be handed over to another organisation (several references in the thread) may come as a surprise to many. There may be DP implications. J.

Your probably right John.

There has been new data protection legislation handed down from the EU.

I very much doubt that handing over the entire database of ISKA membership to CI without first getting agreement from each and every member would be entirely legal.

Reply received from Sea Kayaking Rep on Canoeing Ireland's TDU......

"I've asked them about it and all members within an affiliated club must sign up. It boils down to the insurance cover provided and any clubs who do not comply are outwith Canoeing Irelands remit"

A definitive answer. Hope this clears the issue up once and for all

Cheers,
Chris
