Last hints .....
The shot was taken on a trip in June 1993 from Clifden to Belmullet, island hopping all the way. We landed Turbot first night, Inishturk Galway and Omey for second night, (failed to land Cruagh) High, Gort, Shark and Bofin for the third night, Inishturk Mayo fourth night, Clare fifth night, Achillbeg and Doogort sixth night, Blacksod and Belmullet seventh.
No fancy circumnavs were undertaken. We were very inexperienced at the time.

Bleary eyed looking at the photo, google earth, OS maps, an app on my phone. Davillaun and throwing in the towel thereafter.

Well done Conor, at last, it surely wasn\'t that hard ?
The distinctive feature of Davillaun is the small Ox Island at its west end. This shot is looking North. The other critical factor is the summit about one third from the east end. Caher for instance is highest at the western tip. High is simply higher, and Friar is fragmented. They all have their own personality.
This is the island the missing of the landing on which on that trip on that day spawned Oileáin. The landing is one third the way from the west end, and opens southeast. It is not apparent except you are approaching from the southeast or you get very close. Anyone heading south to north will easily miss it. We went through the gap and along the north side, and found nowhere to land. Had we recircled we\'d have found it, as I now know. At that time we risked turning a 2 hour passage Bofin to Turk into 3, so we pushed on. And thereby hangs a tale. It was my 400th personal island when I did get back, with Fred, about 3 or 4 years ago.
Fred thought it could be High when flipped, but others said no, and they were right.
Now to figure out what Knotman is on about. Its a dreary time of year and we need a little entertainment?

Knotman,

Can Phizz Quizz 20 be as simple as 1,100m, i.e. 5.5 x 200 because 1km the distance of boat to cliffs is 200 times the distance boat to camera ?

Phizz Quizz 21 must have the same proportionality but this time it is the vertical interval between the top of the hat and the chin, because the chin is in line with the water\'s edge (which dictates the horizontal, discounting any swell ?). I am in the advantageous position of being the owner of the chin and the wearer of the hat and they measure 25cm apart. So its 25cm x 201 equals 5025cm, and add back in the height of the chin above sea level 75cm equals altogether 5100cm, or 51m.

QED?

I was happy enough (initially) trying to figure out the island but I am not going back to my school days to work out Sennen figures. \"The sum of the angle.....yada yada yada. Sorry

Derek, its Davillaun, not Duvillaun. Between Bofin and Turk, not off Balcksod, sorry. You bare far from the first to NOT make that distinction !

Knotman, Knotman, wherefore art thou Knotman .................
