Midwest / Northwest ISKA Meet 24th & 25th August

Post by conorsmith » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:51 pm

Our next ISKA meet is planned as an offshore camping trip, based on Mason Island between Roundstone and Kilkieran Bays. While there are a couple of holiday homes on the island, it is effectively uninhabited and we hope to base ourselves along a beautiful curved sandy beach on the eastern shore at L747-294.

Options can include meeting Friday lunch time, Friday evening, with the main group meeting Saturday morning. To facilitate those camping Friday night for a shuttle across to main group on Saturday morning, the meeting point will be a short distance from Mace Head at quay L743 315.

To get an idea of numbers and more importantly if you are planning to arrive on Friday and to ensure there are leaders to shuttle people between the two points, if you are travelling, please confirm your preferences:

1 - meeting Friday 2pm
2 - meeting Friday 8pm
3 - meeting Saturday 9.30am

Emails and queries to:
Conor Smith - iskacommittee@gmail.com - 086 8-2-8-3-2-4-7
or
Mary Butler - marytbutler@hotmail.com - 087 6-6-1-9-3-4-7

Don\'t assume there is fresh water on the island and please ensure you bring everything you will need for the few days - and that it can fit in your kayak! Please also arrive at the meeting place as organised as possible, to get on the water without too much delay.

And of course everyone who has ever visited this area knows, the trip would not be complete without a visit to McDara\'s Island.

A lovely clip by Michelle Granaghan of some of the islands we expect to visit on this weekend.

Unless you prefer to purchase your own map of the region, a PDF of the area is attached. If you have access to a printer, laminator or waterproof case, it is all yours.

If you prefer a JPEG image, drop me an email and I will send this on by return.

Some of us from Clare are planning to be at the meeting point for 2pm Friday, if anyone one fancies joining up. We will head to Mason, set up camp and potter about the area and maybe catch a few mackerel for tea.

Could everyone bring a few logs for a fire on the beach for later in the evenings, as there will be nothing to gather on the island. It will be handy enough to leave items not needed straight away in the car to collect later when we head to meet the evening group, if you are short of space initially. If everyone just brings 3 or 4 small logs each, it should be more than enough.Post edited by: iskacommittee, at: 2013/08/20 09:35

Ah yes by going back to Mason I may be able to stop the flashbacks !

I was at the last off shore camp on Mason. I can\'t remember a lot of it however so by going back again I may be able to fill in the gaps ;)
