What a program!
And apparently its a series, so more coming.
Thanks to all concerned in the warning.
Everyone, 6.30 next Sunday.
For those who watched, a detail, all children were taught semaphore in (up to ?) the early 1950s. I was quite good at it one time, but not anymore. Use it or lose it. It went out of fashion, as they say.
Another related detail, I searched for ever on behalf of Oileain for a groove worn in the wall of Skerries harbour that was used to steady the telescope for semaphore from Rockabill and never found it. 4 miles is far greater than the Ballycotton challenge and the lightkeepers had the flags, those on shore the telescope, so the challenge was different, reversed. An old local salt told me later that the wall was refurbished and so the groove lost.
Semaphore was very reliable and couldn't be intercepted by enemy watchers unless they were very close. Great for e.g. ship to ship in WW2 convoys. The Korean war in 1952 had helicopters and everything changed, as things do.
Thanks Dave, thanks Knotman.
